Silichong Rural Municipality is located in the north-western part of Sankhuwasabha district. This rural municipality lies entirely within the buffer zone of the Makalu Barun National Park. The area of Silichong Rural Municipality is 293.26 square kilometers. It extends from $27^\circ 26′ 09”$ to $27^\circ 30′ 07”$ North latitude and $86^\circ 56′ 24”$ to $87^\circ 11′ 40”$ East longitude. On its eastern border lie Chichila Rural Municipality, Khandbari Municipality, and Makalu Rural Municipality of the same Sankhuwasabha district; on the western border lies Mahakulung Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu district; on the northern border lies Makalu Rural Municipality; and to the south lies Salpasilichho Rural Municipality of Bhojpur district.
Silichong Rural Municipality is situated in Sankhuwasabha district. Under the state restructuring of Nepal, this rural municipality was established on Falgun 27, 2073 B.S. by merging the former Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Sisuwakhola, Bala, Mangtewa, Tamku, and Yafu (Wards 1 to 4 and Ward 9). The rural municipality was named after the scenic Silichong Peak/Peaklet located within this municipality. The Silichong Peak, which serves as the major attraction of the rural municipality, along with its surrounding natural viewpoints, is exceptionally beautiful and picturesque.
